Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Rodney Williams grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, which sparked his interest in business at an early age. He graduated from Drexel University in 2017 with a degree in entrepreneurial studies while playing Division I basketball and earning multiple athletic and academic honors. After college, Rodney spent three years playing professionally in Israel, Spain, France, and Sweden. During that time, he also earned his MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Returning home marked a turning point in Rodney’s life. Like many athletes, he had to determine who he was and what he wanted to pursue beyond the game. The transition was not as smooth as he expected, but it challenged him to think deeply about identity, career, and purpose. That experience ultimately led him back to entrepreneurship and shaped his passion for helping others navigate major life and career transitions.

Over the last several years, Rodney has built a career at the intersection of venture capital, entrepreneurship, and business development. He has designed and managed business programs in partnership with organizations such as Goldman Sachs, Ford, the NFLPA, Square, Fiverr, SheaMoisture, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. As Head of Platform at 1863 Ventures, he supported hundreds of entrepreneurs, managed accelerator programs, and worked closely with early-stage portfolio companies. He later joined Zeal Capital Partners as a Portfolio Manager, where he supported founders, managed investment processes, and helped companies navigate fundraising and operational challenges.

Rodney now works in venture capital investments and partnerships at M&T Bank, helping the bank build relationships with venture funds, startup founders, and organizations across the innovation ecosystem. His work focuses on identifying investment opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and connecting the bank with the companies and leaders shaping the future of business.

His journey from athlete to entrepreneur, operator, and venture capital professional inspired him to create Athlete 2 Boardroom. Through the platform, Rodney helps current and former athletes navigate the transition beyond sports and translate the skills they developed through competition into successful careers, businesses, and leadership opportunities. His mission is to give athletes the tools, confidence, and community needed to thrive long after the game ends.
